We Found Justice In Our Beauty

leopard-small2
“Unleash” leopard oil on canvas by Dane Eisenbart.

We met underground, in an

Tababove-ground world.

He was beautiful:

Tabthe biggest, brightest tiger.

We stood together

Tabas a who’s who of the animal kingdom

Tabraced past us.

Together we became tiny,

Tablike Thumbelina and her flower-fairy prince,

Taband walked through tall grass.

He showed me the blood,

Tabdried and sticky on his side.

I told him

TabI loved him more for it.

I asked him if he would hurt me.

TabHe grew so large he filled the sky,

then licked my wounds.

We found justice in our beauty.

  1. “I asked him if he would hurt me.
He grew so large he filled the sky,
    then licked my wounds.”

Love focuses us down on the micro level and yet it is ultimately bigger than us, which can be frightening and soothing at the same time. The healing balm we get from sharing our scars.

    Lovely poem!
