trees don’t grow as tall as the pedestal you put me on

i could write you a book made of
corpse flower petals and wilting
hydrangeas. you never liked flowers;
you never liked me. when i asked
you for love all i got was a tree.
it was small and you said it would
grow over time. i was waiting
to die and you wanted me alive.
