If No One Watches

something like urgency
through October leaves

don’t look away
reach back

the draft in the cool morning
when nouns were on your side

tell the coffee cup all about it

the chipped tooth the kaleidoscope
the failed mission deep into what
turned out to be friendly territory

this blue color in the sky I try to
put aside when I have the pen in my hand

what these scratchings amount to a hole
in the lawn how far down does it go
